Warming up is very essential before starting a round of golf to improve your scores in the course. When we say “warm up”, it does not mean hitting balls before the game. It is preparing your body before taking a swing into the golf ball. When your body is not prepared before starting to swing, you might take a lot of bad golf swings and take it on the golf course during play. Warming up can help lower your scores and reduce the risk of injuries.

To start with a good and proper warm-up before a round of golf, you have to be in the green fields early. This will give you enough time to organize everything that is needed which includes course pass, cart, bag, scorecard and other necessary entities before starting your warm up.

In order to perform an efficient swing, your muscles and joints must be relaxed and loosen. Proper and simple stretches must be done 5-10 minutes before the start of the game. A head-to-toe stretching exercise would be more appropriate in order to stretch all the muscle groups that will be used in the game. Always hold each exercise for 15-20 counts.

Here are simple stretches before hitting balls.

First, grab a club and hold it with your two hands with a width just outside your shoulders. Squat down as you raise your club up. This will allow proper blood flow in your body and the major joints are getting moved. With a medium speed, slowly stretch up higher and squat deeper. After this, shake your shoulders and catch up your breath before starting the next exercise.

The next exercise will loosen up your lower back, core, and your hamstrings. Take the club in front of you and slowly bend your waist then when you stand twist to your side. Then bend again and when you stand twist at your other side. Repeat 10 to 15 counts then you can bend lower. The progression of this exercise is to bend slowly then raise your arms until shoulder level then twist then to the other side. Do this for 15 to 20 counts.

The last exercise is similar to your golf swing. Get a wide grip on the shaft then do a golf posture. Turn on your back swing and follow through. Maintain your posture and slowly do it faster.

After stretching, practice your swings to have a rhythm and consistency of swinging your gold club and hitting the balls. Practice swinging each club, from a pitching wedge to a driver wedge, with a minimum of 5 swings.

A warmed up body can give more confidence in the green fields.
